Summer Associate Program
The Burns, Figa & Will, P.C., Summer Associate Program is designed to give students the opportunity to work in areas of law in which they have an interest
The Burns, Figa & Will, P.C., Summer Associate Program is designed to give students the opportunity to work in areas of law in which they have an interest and provide them with the opportunity to experience the many different aspects it takes to practice within those areas. Additionally, our summer associates also gain exposure and experience in areas they may not initially have had an interest in. It is our belief that by exposing summer associates to all of the firm’s practice areas, they may uncover a passion for a practice area that they may not have previously considered.
It is the goal of the program to pair summer associates with shareholders and associates in the areas of practice that we anticipate to have a future need. The shareholders and associates are encouraged whenever possible, to include summer associates in all aspects of client matters to/and including client conferences, depositions, settlement conferences court hearings and trials in which the firm is involved.
The shareholders and associates are encouraged to provide regular feedback on the progress of the summer associates with regard to performance, writing skills, research, attention to detail, follow up, and other aspects related to their areas of practice. We also encourage all summer associates to proactively solicit feedback from shareholders and associates when they complete projects. Since writing is such an important part of the practice of law, students are encouraged to seek feedback from shareholders and associates on their writing skills and style. This “two way” communication effort enhances the experience for all our summer associates.
It is our intention to bring in the best possible candidates each summer and all candidates go through a comprehensive interview process to ensure a good fit for the firm, and the candidate. Our hiring committee puts forth the time and effort required to bring in candidates that will be a valued member of our team, and have the potential to be considered for associate positions in the future.
Additionally, the firm hosts a variety of social activities during the summer to give the shareholders, associates and summer associates the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the practice of law, and in a more casual setting.
